Chapter One

I was raised in corn country.  From the front porch, you saw corn.  From the back porch, you saw more corn.  The only reprieve from corn was summer vacation.  Dad was a third-generation truck driver, so that meant road trips.  We visited about half of the states.

I moved to Cincinnati after becoming a Mom while attending the University of Cincinnati and working at the art museum.  I have no idea now how I managed it all.  But I continued traveling every summer with my daughter, adding Hawaii to my bucket list.

I had a cheap snap and shot film camera, creating photos that faded over time.

When I had the opportunity to attend UCLA and work in the film industry, I jumped at the chance.

Nikon had just released their CoolPix series.  It was my first digital camera, and I purchased it just before leaving Cincinnati.

Spoiler alert:  I have several more Nikons.  But I’m saving that for later.
